NOT YET READY FOR USE
For now, new players should start at the settlement, called Lander's Point.

You begin this journey having just exited your vault, the place you've called home all your life. The vault door is locked behind you, and you cannot get back in, nor contact anyone inside - the control panel there is unresponsive. You're in a cave, and you see bones nearby. You have a chilling, dark feeling as you realize there is only one way to go: out, into an unfamiliar wasteland! But you know...you're not ready...

NOTE: Check out your Character's ID by holding ALT and clicking the Character. This ID is unique. If you keep game notes, write it down for later reference.

Your First Big Decision

As you reach the mouth of the cave, you see a settlement nearby where other vault dwellers seem to be going. It seems like a secure place - a good way to start your adventure. Maybe they can help you get outfitted with some basic gear? You have nothing on you, and the alternative is a harsh wasteland. With no other clear direction, Lander's Point starts to sound pretty nice.

NOTE: You are prompted to choose between going to the settlement, or striking out on your own. This guide directs you to check out the settlement. You'll earn some fast, easy initial XP there and get some basic tools and gear.

Lander's Point

Once inside the settlement, you can read long dialogue texts with Captain Jason Stone, the officer in charge there, and with the Mr Handy nearby. Read it at your discretion (recommended if you are so new you don't know how to do very basic things).

Run straight for those brahmin pens, get the job to shovel poo, and shovel until you hit Level 2. It goes fast, and you get paid. Take those Caps into the nearby tent, and buy a tool from "your cousin" Felix. His first dialogue will not have the option to buy anything, so open dialogue with him again and buy a Tool. If you lack enough Caps, then go shovel more poo - you need that Tool.

As soon as you get a Tool, equip it in Slot 1 and start Scavenging. Mouse-over various barrels and trashy items on the ground to see where you can scavenge. You'll get easy XP this way, and amass a collection of stuff, including Junk. Your Scavenging Skill will increase on its own as you do this (max 21% inside the Settlement).

You get a Lander's Point Exit Package when you leave this settlement. What items are included in that package depends on which quests you complete here, so if you want to head into the wasteland with a Folded Tent, an assortment of useful tools, a leather jacket and numerous other items, then take your time here. Go read the Lander's Point page and have fun solving as many of those quests as you like. Return here when done.

NOTE: The one item that is the most useful in your Lander's Point Exit Package is a Folded Tent, so make sure you complete all jobs for the injured hunter before you leave.

When done, talk with Custos the Scout near the gate. You don't get to leave with any of the items you collected - sorry! They keep those. What you get is the Lander's Point Exit Package.
