Revision as of 17:14, 26 September 2021

This page is a list of steps that will be part of a new comprehensive startup guide. For now, use this as an Express Version of the full guide. It should work pretty well, down to "STOP".

This guide's purpose is to enhance a new player's startup experience, first by providing a structured route through quests, including the cleverly-written main story. You start a character planned for survival and exploration. He will be strong soon, but we're all weak when we begin, so the early priority is staying alive as you get stronger. You start in the Hub area, leveling up on easy tasks and a low risk of Death. Once you're a little stronger, you go north and abroad. You return with a car and use it to get more XP, more Levels, more Perks, and more Caps. You'll buy Skill Books, establish a base, and set up a network of private locations all over the map. You'll recruit some NPC followers, and explore tougher quests. Later, you'll power-level additional characters, using a leveling build. They'll go straight to your base, grab a pile of gear and a vehicle, all prepared in advance by your first character. Then Reroll them into combat specialists once they hit a target level.

PROJECT STATUS: By Jan 2021, 25 characters stepped through these steps, starting at level 1, in order to develop, test, and improve this guide. Nine months later, in September 2021, levels 1-7 have been ironed out and polished several times. A new set of Level 1 characters is lining up for run-throughs soon. This is a time-consuming effort to provide the best guide possible. Players are invited to use this guide and provide feedback on the forum

Description, Advice, Config Stuff

  • Go to forum, find and get FallCraftPlus.zip, set that up, close/re-launch client
  • Set combat mode to Real-Time (trust me) by using this in-game command: ~combatmode rt
  • Your game experience will vary slightly, so the XP and Caps targets shown here will not always match exactly what you have in-game. It will be close, but it will not match exactly. Don't worry about that - just kep pushing through the "harsh".

The First Character Build

This is a versatile survival expert. He is a strong fist-fighter who also uses Combat Shotguns and all other Small Guns weaponry.

This is the build for this guide. With it, you will have the flexibility of 2 fighting skills: Small Guns and Close Combat. You'll use Combat Shotguns, pistols, and SMGs, but you'll become a skilled fist-fighter too, doing a lot of knockdowns while enemies will often miss. With some levels, recruit NPC companions and build a combat support team to follow you around and back you up in fights. This is a combat-capable lead character, for diving into most of the quests, and getting set up for your expansion, which will include additional characters (combat specialists, etc).

This adventure begins here...
  • Register, login, and run out of the cave. When prompted about a settlement, choose to head out into the open wasteland
  • Outside the cave, get 2 quests from the Startled Caravan Driver (all dialogue option 1 until done), and press P twice to verify both quests are listed: Into the Great Wide Open and Far Go Scout
  • Also, press your ENTER key to open the chat bar, and type this command to verify your Party Points are 0/91: ~pp
  • Also, type: ~combatmode rt to temporarily switch to Real-Time while you're just trying to stay alive (you can run whichever combat mode you prefer later during combat)
  • Exit to The World map and press C to open your Character profile and review some info:

  • Walk to Hub, but avoid all random encounters for now, and run for the Exit Grid immediately if forced into any
  • Over Hub, use your Town/World button (bottom right) to enter Hub via the Market entrance, +165xp (text will say 150xp but it lies)
  • Use Control+1 (and Control+2 as needed) to see interiors, and take note of the layout of Hub's Market area:
    • Four buildings in the middle, including the Gun Store, the Bank, the General Store, and the Book Store
    • Far Go Traders above, Police Station to right, and the Maltese Falcon bar to left
  • Don't talk with any NPCs yet, just run straight up the alley between the middle four buildings, and up the street straight toward the Post Office, turn left to run past the waving flag, and go to the brahmin pens
  • Talk to the poo guy twice to 1) get a job shoveling poo, and 2) get a free shovel, and then shovel only about 36 poo to hit Level 2, +864xp, +170 Caps

  • In the nearby tent just north, talk with Dan twice to swap shovel for a Knife (+100xp)
  • Use your keyboard's Function key (Fn) + F5 to toggle your HUD's text box area larger to see more notifications
  • Run across the street to the large farm field. Mixed in with the plants here are 9 fiber stalks in the field - gather as much fiber as you can, max 180
    • This guide assumes you get all 180 fibers, but other people harvest these fields too, so if you get less than 180 don't worry about it - your XP won't match this guide exactly, but it will catch up later
  • Run back down into the Market area, go into the book store (top building of the middle four) and get Swift Learner from Mrs Stapleton
  • Run to the bottom of the Market area under the water well, press F4 to drop your HUD, and exit via the south Exit Grid
    • Note there are 3 Exit Grids in Market south: under the bar (bottom left) goes to The Heights, the middle one leads to The World map, and the far right Exit Grid goes to Water Merchants
  • Enter Hub again but this time use the main entrance (default), run down the street and talk to Joe Kelly (in metal armor) standing in the open (137xp) and ask him about Custos (82xp +a few items)
  • (You can move boxes for the Caravan Packer, but it's a slow way to get anything). Exit Hub back to The World map
  • Enter Hub yet againm but this time via Old Town, and notice the layout here:
    • A foundry/machine shop and Jacob's building on top, Workbench building at end of street
    • Tannery in the middle, L-shaped building behind it with a basement, and a scrapyard area to far right
  • Talk with Jacob about his deal with Gun Runners (ask where Gun Runners are located to highlight it on world map)
  • Craft 48 Ropes (12 at a time) at the Workbench in the last building at the end of the street
  • Slow-walk the Rope into the Tannery to sell them to Claire, but stop along the way to speak with the little girl near the Tannery entrance about her missing papa (No Child Left Behind)
  • Go into the Tannery and sell the 48 ropes to Claire 12 at a time, Level 3 (13:06)
  • Choose Adrenaline Rush and distribute Skill Points: Science 74

  • Sometimes you get a Tool from Claire, but not always. You need a Tool. Either get more fiber and craft more rope, or...
    • If you found a set of Lockpicks, go down into the basement in Old Town and trade with the thief, choose Tool
    • Otherwise, there is a building just inside the main entrance where you can buy a Tool from a Toolmaker, or expand your search into the Market district
  • With a Tool, search-n-Scavenge Old Town (an Market as needed) for items and resources, but drop Junk/Wood as you become overweight
    • Press Control+1 and Control+2 to drop ceilings and walls to see better
    • Search (26?) containers again, and Scavenge 38 nodes for resources as you go
    • You get 2 attempts to Scavenge per node, to find raw materials
  • When you have Lockpicks, go to the L-shaped building, use the stairs down, and search-n-Scavenge there too
    • Talk with the Thief in rags twice, and trade Lockpicks to him for another Tool, 880xp
  • Check pool table, note location of "Dirty Old Man"
  • Once done in Old Town, stop in and sell some eParts to Ferrarius there in the foundry building - he buys bulk orders (550xp)
  • Exit Old Town to Market district, go straight into the Far Go Traders and deliver the message you received from the Startled Caravan Driver (complete Far Go Scout, 440xp +120 Caps), Level 5
