"When I look out my window....many sights to see. And when i look in my window....so many changes, so many edits in season 3."

Season 3

  • MASTER PROJECT: A new step-by-step startup guide for solo PvE/quest explorers
  • Wow, Season 3 is amazing! Looking forward to the new engine, by cvet...
  • Recently organized a Wasteland Tour where a tour guide leads a large party to various sites
Maybe Some Dev Work
A Wish List of Development Projects, time permitting
  • MEP (Map Expansion Project) to copy the 15 maps in the existing tiny map pool of random desert encounters, change the copies, and thus expand the pool. Goal: to greatly broaden the player's sense of how vast is the environment. Right now, with so few maps, a new player has seen most of it in the first hour of worldmap travel. Changes to map copies would include moving trees/rocks around, adding more, deleting some, etc. Adv ver: build series map sets with each set having more and more interesting features, some tight bottlenecks, some exit grids hard to reach, etc.
  • Ability to upgrade the Vault Bunker Base. It has an elevator. Let's get it working. First let's get the power on, and clean the place up. Hire a ghoul janitorial team. It takes them a long time, but tile by tile they replace dark dingy floors and walls with bright clean ones. Then get the robot working, and fix the computer that drives him. Next, obtain programs to load to the robot computer so robot can do housekeeping, guard base, and a clear away the rocks that block the door in the back of the conference room. That leads to a mine with stairs down. Use stairs to access level 2 and fix the elevator from there. Tons more, and eventually access upper level radio room, fix radio, climb ladder to access antenna outside on cliff. Repair antenna, use radio to contact a live vault. Offer to help them come out and build their New Vault City (part of a new main quest), etc.
  • Waterworks should have a lower level. Clear hostiles there and get machines working, route water north to water substations. Head north on map, find all substations, clear hostiles, repair machines and direct water eventually to San Francisco. Be the hero there. Repeat process to route water to Boneyard, then Hub and then Junktown, and maybe Necropolis. How far can this feature go? Once a goal is reached, a new type of farm can be sited on map inside the area, to produce food.
  • Food Farms are sited once water is routed from Waterworks quests. Site has trees, so chop 'em down and hire ghoul lumberjacks to clear the stumps. Work the land and start farm construction: fences, shacks, main farm house, animal pens etc. Dig a well, build a pond, irrigation. Rescue NPC farmers and recruit them to work on your farm. They eat some of the food the farm produces so work farm, hire NPC, work farm, hire NPC in steps. Farm map has back exits to expansion areas which contain fruit trees, fiber stalks, barley plants, a blocked cave etc.
  • Hire a demolitions crew to open the cave into a mine. Add NPCs to mine as food permits.
  • Heavy Machines: in so many city ruins encounters, you see old machines and equipment that is only for looks. Let's add some value to them. Click on heavy equipment like crashed vehicles etc, and possibly recover some parts from it. Those parts upgrade your matching machinery back in your Scrapyard base. Once all machines in your Scrapyard base reach 100% or more, you can build a Manufacturing Plant base. With enough work there, it can run limited, automated crafting with ability to produce a few special items otherwise not craftable. Eventually produce some non-item parts wanted by Enclave, BoS, and CVity, and be approached by all 3 for contracts. Player must choose contract, each choice has good/bad.
  • Nuka-Cola Delivery: get hired by Nuka-Cola, run their soda to known vending machines all over the map, repair machines along the way, get new accounts, get paid based on distance and risk.
  • Use rocks in Shady Sands near main entrance for hidden access into cave system, which connects to a new sewer system.
  • More MEP: expand city ruins map pool, include some manholes down into limited sewer spaces.
  • And more MEP: copy the ~13 cave maps about 10 times each so cave exploration is more vast too.

My Editing Projects

  • Looking into this chat feature extension...
  • Season 3 started. Whoah Betty. Suddenly so many edits...
  • Documented Blood-Soaked Heroes "main quest", written by Corosive. Very clever story!
  • Still finding undocumented NPCs and features...
  • Down to 183 "Wanted Pages" (missing pages linked in red somewhere), from thousands in 2238.
  • Need to complete a Startup Guide, for new players who like a step-by-step approach, but the new engine is Soon so...waiting...

  • 2016 Oct: Oh boy. NPCs with dialogue are like vip people. Seems to me there should be a VIP category. If not, call it NPC. But what we have atm are most NPCs don't have pages (missing/needed pages), a few NPCs with pages but 3 different templates in use amongst them. Metzger for example is using the standard "Critter" template with all the details. I don't think we should use this template for vip NPCs. Next we have some using Critter2 template which shows far less details, good but includes a "Proto ID" which may have no value to us now. The NPC template i like is "NPC" which i have updated a bit. Started using it (Boyce, Doc Larrakin, Sassy Givens) but then noticed there is no NPC Category (or VIP Category). Found existing NPC pages are in Critter Category, which seems wrong to me. Critter should be life we encounter in the wild, often non-unique, not always hostile but not the VIPs. Next Hot Topic is creating the VIP pages needs to be done thoughtfully as most VIPs have only a first name. Do we really want a page called simply "Mitch"? There are two NPCs named Mitch, and both are in Hub. So i suggest we name these pages with more detail, like "Mitch the Short Merchant". There may only be one Smitty now, but i made his page Smitty the Repairman to distinguish him from some future additional Smitty.
