Wood is one of the four foundational Resources in the wasteland, used for Crafting Weapons and Tools, obtained from certain trees. Not all trees yield wood, but a Character can chop some trees down to stumps, to gather a lot of wood. Wood is also used to make some DIY bases.

Finding Wood

• It can be obtained, up to 5 pieces at a time, by cutting trees with a hatchet or a primitive tool.
• Trees that can be chopped are often found in random encounters, mostly in mountains and urban maps, but also in city ruins, and even in some Towns.
• There are plenty of trees in Hub that yield wood, though not all do.
• Wood is frequently obtained from Scavenging, something you can do in Towns like Hub, with a Tool in your Inventory.
• Wood can be obtained from dismantling some gear, like weapons. Use the Science skill on something to see if you can dismantle it, and see what you get.
  • Hint: Higher IN helps, and so does the Dismantler perk.
