While RadAway is taken after exposure to reduce a character's Current Radiation Level, Rad-X is taken prior to exposure as a preventative measure, to boost a character's Radiation Resistance.
Rad-X is one of the few drugs with effects that stack. You can take 2 at a time and get double the bonus to Radiation Resistance, although any character's Radiation Resistance caps at 95%. If, for example, your character already has a natural 42% resistance to radiation, taking 1 makes it 92% so in that case taking a 2nd would only give you 3% more.
