If he asks for 1 of something, you get some xp for delivering it. If he asks you for 8 of something, you get a lot more xp for that. The reward varies as well, and might include weapons and ammo.
NOTE: Sometimes he asks for too many of a difficult item. You can choose to stop working for him at any time.
