Basic information

This weapon, combined with the speed loader, is in this wastelander’s opinion the definitive choice when compared to the iconic Desert Eagle, even with its expanded magazine, for one-handed firearms in its tier. The damage difference is too significant to be ignored; 16-22 compared to the Deagle’s 12-18, a +4 increase on both values. With a speed loader, the difference in magazine size becomes much less important. However, be sure to note the significant difference in range. Even with that drawback, this is a favorite choice for those with the One Hander perk or other gunslingers on this crafting tier. Of course, it is outclassed by weapons in the next tiers, such as the .223 Pistol and Gauss pistol.

Background

The .44 magnum round was originally developed in 1956 for revolvers just like this one, and was quickly adapted to carbines and rifles. It was the most powerful pistol cartridge in the world until 1983, when the first revolvers chambered for the more powerful .454 Casull were produced. Its original purpose is hunting -- specifically, hunting in marshy areas, such as southern Louisiana, where the shorter range of a pistol is appropriate, but high-power rounds are still needed to take on any size of game.
