These are some common abbreviations in this game:
- AB - Action Boy
- AC - Armor Class
- AG - Agility
- AP - Action Points, or Armor Piercing
- APA - Advanced Power Armor
- APK - Anti Player-Killer, those who fight against tyranny (as opposed to PK, or Player-Killer)
- APM - Anti-Personnel Mine
- AR - Assault Rifle, or Adrenaline Rush
- Ares - Ares Rocket Silo
- BC - Better Criticals
- BG - Barter Grounds, or Big Guns, or Boneyard Guard perk.
- BH - Broken Hills
- BRD - Bonus Ranged Damage
- BRoA - Bonus Rate of Attack, a merging of BRoF and Bonus HtH Attacks
- BRoF - Bonus Rate of Fire, a RETIRED perk
- CA - Combat Armor
- CA MKII - Combat Armor Mark II
- CA2 - An even shorter abbreviation for Combat Armor Mark II
- CC - Close Combat or Crit Chance
- CCM - Closed Combat Master or sometimes Claw Company Mercs
- CH - Charisma
- CLJ - Combat Leather Jacket
- CtH - Chance to Hit
- CW - Carry Weight
- DCA - Desert Combat Armor
- DR - Damage Resistance
- DT - Damage Threshold
- EMC - Even More Criticals
- EN - Endurance
- EP - Exit Package
- ET - Even Tougher
- EW - Energy Weapons
- FA - First Aid skill
- FCC - Fuel Cell Controller
- FEV - Forced Evolutionary Virus
- FF - Fortune Finder
- FLC - Friendly Lending Company, the bank located in some towns
- FM - Field Medic

- F1 - The original Fallout game from 1997, now owned by Bethesda, sometimes called Fallout 1
- F2 - Fallout 2, the sequel released only 1 year later due to immediate success of F1
- FO2238 - FOnline: 2238 (now offline) was hosted by Rotators
- FOR - FOnline: Reloaded, this game, hosted by Kilgore, DocAN and mojuk
- FO2 - FOnline 2, one of the other FOnline servers, knot to be confused with Fallout 2
- F3 - Fallout 3
- FNV - Fallout New Vegas
- FoV - Field of View
- FR - Fast-Relog, something that is against the rules if applicable in any way to PvP
- GR - Gunrunners
- HC - Hit Chance
- HH - Heavy Handed
- HP - Hit Points
- HPA - Hardened Power Armor
- HR - Healing Rate
- HtG - Hit the Gaps
- HtH - Hand-to-Hand aka Close Combat
- IG - Iron Grip or Incendiary Grenade
- IL - Iron Limbs
- IN - Intelligence
- IRL - In Real Life
- IYF - In Your Face!
- LA - Living Anatomy, or Los Angeles area aka Boneyard
- LG - Lifegiver
- LK - Luck
- LP - Lockpick skill
- LR - Laser Rifle
- LSMG - Laser SMG, the EW version of an SMG (see SMG below)
- LSW - Light Support Weapon (Big Guns), or Laser Support Weapon (EW)
- MA - Metal Armor
- MA2 - Metal Armor Mark II
- MC - More Criticals
- MDoC - Marked Deck of Cards
- ML - Multi-Log, something that is against the rules
- MoS - Man of Steel
- MPF - Mega Power Fist
- MRD - More Ranged Damage
- MS - Motion Sensor
- NCR - New California Republic but commonly refers to Shady Sands
- NR - New Reno
- NRA - New Reno Arms, a guns store in New Reno
- OD - Outdoorsman skill
- OoC - Out of Character, as in text chat in brown color via /O, one of the In-Game Chat options
- PA - Power Armor
- PC - Player Character - not the player, but any one of a player's in-game characters
- PE - Perception
- PJ - Pancor Jackhammer
- PK - Player-Killer, those who murder others (as opposed to APK, or Anti Player-Killer)
- PP - Party Points or YK32 Pulse Pistol
- PTK - Poisoned Throwing Knives
- PvE - Player versus Environment
- PvP - Player versus Player
- Pyro - Pyromaniac
- QP - Quick Pockets
- QR - Quick Recovery
- rAP - Recharge Action Points
- RBtE - Right Between the Eyes
- RL - Rocket Launcher, or Real Life (IRL above)
- RoF - Rate of Fire when Shooting
- RP - Role-Play
- RR - Radiation Resistance
- RT - Real-Time (mode) as opposed to TB below
- SAD - Sierra Army Depot
- SB - Stealth Boy
- SD - Silent Death
- SE - Special Encounter
- SF - San Francisco
- SG - Stealth Girl
- SMG - Submachine Gun, a class of Small Guns that includes the 10mm SMG and the H&K P90c
- SPECIAL - Combination of Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck.
- SR - Silent Running
- SS - Shady Sands commonly called NCR
- ST - Strength
- TB - Turn-Based (mode), as opposed to RT above
- TC - Town Control
- TH - Treasure Hunter
- Tier - Abbreviated and combined with a number, expresses the general power level of an item. Examples:
- Any Level 1 character can craft a double-barreled Shotgun which is considered to be t1
- Get first level of Small Guns profession and craft Combat Shotguns, which are also t1
- But get Small Guns 2 and the right blueprint to craft the H&K CAWS which is t2
- The Pancor Jackhammer is even better, and cannot be crafted, so it's considered t3
- A crafted Minigun is considered to be t2 even with stats
- Meanwhile, the Avenger Minigun is t3
- The Vindicator Minigun is even better than the Avenger, so it is t4
- TLA - Thermal Leather Armor, and is also another of the FOnline Servers called The Life After
- TP - Themepark
- TPR - Turbo Plasma Rifle
- VC - Vault City
- VCI - Vault City Inoculations
- VCP - Vault City Patrols
- WH - Warehouse or sometimes Weapon Handling
- WoF - Way of the Fruit
- WW - Waterworks
