Become a Mutant
Yes, you can become a mutant!
When you become a mutant, you will lose the ability to run, and suffer a walking speed that is slower than usual. However, you will enjoy the following benefits:
- Permanent gain of 50 Hit Points!
- Permanent gain of 30 Carry Weight (does not work)!
- Permanent gain of 15 Rad Resistance!
- Permanent gain of 15 Poisoned Resistance!
- Permanent gain of 5 DR!
NOTE: The decision to become a mutant is PERMANENT and cannot be reversed. Don't even ask.
How to Begin
To become a mutant, first you need to establish various trade routes:
- Bring 12 Electronic Parts to Ban Chao in San Francisco (need 5 IN: Mentats and +IN gear works.) 500 XP
- This begins a quest called "Great Scotts! The Quest for Uranium"
- Ban sends you to Broken Hills to negotiate a contract for a steady supply of Uranium Ore.
- Negotiate with 3 contractors for Zaius in Broken Hills (in tents near Brahmin carts, south-side)
- Zaius will say to talk with "miners" and you see miners just outside, but apparently he really means "contractors".
- Two of the contractors are in tents in the south near some wagons.
- One of the contractors is just north of there near a small shack.
- Speak with Zaius again once you speak with the contractors.
- Go back to San Francisco and talk with Ban Chao again (1000 XP)
- Buy 1 Refined Uranium Ore from him for 1000 Caps
- He sends you to speak with Ringhold at Necropolis
- Establish a trade route with Necropolis
- Talk with Ringhold inside the bunker on the third floor under Necropolis.
- Ringhold wants you to prove the Uranium Ore supply is real.
- Go back and buy a piece of Uranium Ore from Ban Chao and bring it to Charles Ringhold.
- Talk with Ban Chao again.
Part 2
Uranium trade routes have been established. (San Francisco Bulk Orders have been enabled)
- Return to Ringhold
- Talk to Ban Chao about FEV
- Go to Vault City and talk to Kohl (get a Day Pass) (you wont get any books - just return to Ban)
- Talk to Ban Chao
- Take Blood Sample of Charles Ringhold (via dialoge)
- Talk to Ban Chao
- Inject 6 people with mutagen:
- NOTE: The mutagen is not an item you see in inventory, but is handled via dialogue only.
- Lone Wanderers aka Wandering Lunatics (often found around zone 17:33)
- Or go to Den and inject it into 6 local drunkards
- Talk to Ban Chao
- Inject 1 Homesteader with mutagen (around Redding)
- Talk to Ban Chao and get rewards:
- 5k XP
- 1 Human Brain and a Trophy of Recognition
- 18x Pre-War Books, a Cat's Paw Magazine, and a Dean's Electronics Book
- 1 Jet and a Drug Antidote
- 1 Psychic Nullifier and a Purple Robe
HINT: One thing that's been noticed: You can start the quest-chain with less than 5 IN, but after you return with the 12 Electronic Parts, you can't engage dialogue with Ban Chao. You will get "He seems busy, talk to him later", or simply no message at all. It is at this time you need to have at least 5 IN to continue with the quest and finish the Electronic Parts segment of the quest chain.
