Revision as of 21:26, 7 December 2021

A step-by-step structured route though quest content, to level up new players who want to survive while they explore and get stronger. It should work pretty well, down to "STOP".

Start in the safety of Hub and surrounding area. Then go north, return with a car, and use it to advance. You'll level up, get more Perks, make Caps and buy Skill Books, establish a base and set up a Safe House network all over the map. You'll recruit some NPC followers, and get into tougher fights. Later, you'll power-level additional characters, using a leveling build. They'll all have quicker starts with access to your network, gear and vehicles all prepared in advance by this lead character. Then Reroll your levelers as needed.

PROJECT STATUS: December 2021, Levels 1-18 are ready for testing. Prior to this, it was tested 25+ times by Jan 2021 to get best results.

Description, Advice, Config Stuff

  • Go to forum, find and get FallCraftPlus.zip, set that up, close/re-launch client
  • Set combat mode to Real-Time (trust me) by using this in-game command: ~combatmode rt
  • Your game experience will vary slightly, so the XP and Caps targets shown here will not always match exactly what you have in-game. It will be close, but it will not match exactly. Don't worry about that - just keep pushing through the "harsh".

The First Character Build

This first character will become your base commander, but starts out as a lone survivalist. He is a strong fist-fighter who also uses Combat Shotguns and all other Small Guns weaponry.

This is the build for this guide. With it, you will have the flexibility of 2 fighting skills: Small Guns and Close Combat. You'll use Combat Shotguns, pistols, and SMGs, but you'll become a skilled fist-fighter too, doing a lot of knockdowns while enemies will often miss. With some levels, recruit NPC companions and build a combat support team to follow you around and back you up in fights. This is a combat-capable lead character, for moving around easily on The World map, diving into most of the quests, and getting set up for your expansion, which will include additional characters (like Big Gunners, Snipers, Energy Experts, and other combat specialists, etc).

This adventure begins here...
  • Register, log in, and run out of the cave. When prompted about a settlement, choose to "head out into the wasteland"
  • Outside the cave, get 2 quests from the Startled Caravan Driver (all dialogue option 1 until done), and press P twice to verify both quests are listed: Into the Great Wide Open and Far Go Scout
  • Also, press your ENTER key to open the chat bar, and type this command to verify your Party Points are 0/91: ~pp
  • Also, type: ~combatmode rt to temporarily switch to Real-Time while you're just trying to stay alive (you can run whichever combat mode you prefer later)
  • Exit to The World map and press C to open your Character profile and review some info:

  • Press F5 to expand your text box area, to see more notifications
  • Run across the street to the large farm field. Mixed in with the plants here are 9 Fiber stalks in the field - gather as much Fiber as you can, max 180

  • Run back down into the Market area, go into the book store (top building of the middle four buildings) and get Swift Learner from Mrs Stapleton
  • Run to the bottom of the Market area under the water well, press F4 to drop your HUD, and exit via the south Exit Grid

  • Enter Hub again but this time use the main entrance (default), run down the street and talk to Joe Kelly (in metal armor) standing in the street (137 XP) and ask him about Custos (82 XP +a few items)
  • As soon as you get the 137 and 82 XP from Joe, press ESC to exit dialogue, and exit Hub back to The World map
  • (In Hub any time, you can move boxes for the Caravan Packer, but it's a slow way to get anything)
  • Enter Hub yet again but this time via Old Town, and notice the layout here:
    • A foundry/machine shop and Jacob's building on top, Workbench building at end of street
    • Tannery in the middle, L-shaped building behind it with a basement, and a scrapyard area to far right
  • Ask Jacob where he gets his weapons, and ask about his deal with Gun Runners (ask where Gun Runners are located to highlight it on world map)
  • Craft 48 Ropes (12 at a time) at the Workbench in the last building at the end of the street (528 XP)
  • Slow-walk the Rope into the Tannery to sell them to Claire, but stop along the way to speak with the little girl near the Tannery entrance about her missing papa (No Child Left Behind)

  • Start Scavenging! Search containers like bookshelves and boxes (some things are locked), and use a Tool to Scavenge junky things laying around the streets
  • You need a Tool to scavenge. Sometimes you get a Tool from Claire, but not always. You need a Tool. Either get more fiber and craft more rope, or...
    • When you found a set of Lockpicks, go down into the basement in Old Town and trade with the thief, choose Tool
    • Otherwise, there is a building just inside the main entrance where you can buy a Tool from a Toolmaker, or expand your search into the Market district
  • Notice that your Scavenging skill starts at 0, but it goes up naturally as you successfully use the skill
  • With a Tool, search-n-Scavenge Old Town (and Market as needed) for items and resources, and expect to become overweight - that's okay, you'll do some Crafting with this stuff
  • Of particular interest will be finding brahmin hides, a radio, Lockpicks for the thief downstairs, and a Lighter
    • Press Control+1 and Control+2 to drop ceilings and walls to see better
    • Search (26?) containers, and Scavenge 38 nodes for resources as you go
    • You get 2 attempts to Scavenge per node, to find raw materials
  • When you have Lockpicks, go to the L-shaped building, use the stairs down, and search-n-Scavenge there too
    • Talk with the Thief in rags twice, and trade Lockpicks to him for another Tool, 880 XP
  • Check pool table, note location of "Dirty Old Man"
  • By the time you Scavenge all of Old Town, your Scavenging skill might be close to 30%, and it will continue to climb as you Scavenge more
  • Once you've Scavenged all of the junk piles and resource nodes in Old Town, use the Workbench to craft a few things if you can:
    • Craft a batch of 100 Small Energy Cells (or 1 batch of Throwing Knives), a batch of BBs, a leather helmet, a 9mm Mauser, Lockpicks, and a Radio (enable reception, and tune it to channel 0)
  • Drop extra Junk at the workbench and whatever else you can lose for now, to lighten your load so you can run
  • If you haven't already traded Lockpicks to the basement thief, do that next (880 XP), and search/scavenge there too
  • Once done in Old Town, stop in and sell some eParts to Ferrarius there in the foundry building - he buys bulk orders (550 XP if only 1 batch of 6 eParts, up to 1650 XP if 3 batches of 12 eParts), Level 5

  • With a Lighter, talk with Hope the Lounge Singer to begin her quest (open dialogue with her twice and always choose option 1)

  • Exit Old Town and enter the Police Station, speak with Sheriff Andrew Hayden about Hope. In dialogue with him, make sure to get the victim's name and occupation
    • You must exit dialogue properly here for this quest to work right - get the above info and exit via the last dialogue option, "Thanks a lot..."
  • Speak next with Detective Cwan, and then with Detective Spade, get in a close call situation where a shot gets fired
  • Exit the Police Station and run across the street into the Gun Store and introduce yourself to Beth - follow that dialogue to advance the Into the Great Wide Open quest. 110 XP
  • Run to the General Store and introduce yourself to short Mitch, 137 XP
  • From the General Store, exit Hub via the south exit and let's get your first tent set up!
  • Outside Hub, go to Zone 30:39 to bottom right corner, go into an empty encounter, and "use" your Folded Tent
    • Congratulations! You now have a semi-safe place to store stuff. Add 3 Wood to the fire when you can, to upgrade the fire pit to a Campfire
  • At your Tent, use Shift+click on items in your Inventory, to pick make some piles:
    • Make one pile of ammo, all types
    • Drop all Junk on a different hex, and all other raw materials in another hex (more hides, metal parts, alloys, wood, etc) but keep your fibers on you
    • Drop all Drugs and food items, water bags/bottles, medical bags and Broc/Xander into a single pile on yet another hex, but keep 1 Stimpak in your Inventory
    • Make another pile just for spare Tools, Crowbars, Hatchets, Shovels, and weapons like Spears, Sledgehammers, etc
    • Drop odd/misc items (like paintings) into a single pile on their own hex
  • Now with a much lighter load, go back into Hub's Market and find who is selling some 9mm Ball ammo, and buy 50 rounds
    • Make sure you are carrying your Caps, a 9mm Mauser pistol, 1 black leather jacket, 1 leather cap, and 1 Stimpak
  • Run out west to the clinic and speak next with Doctor Burhnefletch to advance the Into the Great Wide Open quest, 82 XP
  • Speak with the doctor a 2nd time to get the The Anguished Man quest: dialogue options 1, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 etc, 1100 XP
  • Run north from the clinic and enter the Post Office, talk with a Hubber, +1100 XP +7 Hub Reputation
  • Exit Post Office, run south behind the bar toward the southwest Exit Grid which leads to The Heights
    • Scavenge as you go - there are several juicy places behind the bar that can be Scavenged for more resources, Level 6

  • Before you hunt the geckos, go straight south back to Gun Runners and talk with Marshal one last time to close the deal with Jacob
  • Exit Gun Runners, drink a Beer, and head straight to the Gecko Hunting Grounds. As long as you are not armed with a gun, and only use melee (spiked knuckles), you can easily beat all of these geckos
    • The In Your Face! perk causes your enemies to miss a lot when fighting solely HtH
  • Beat the geckos and gather all pelts and other items you find there (1965 XP), including an SMG and a Combat Shotgun that's hidden next to the Star Trek red-shirt guy
  • Cut some wood until you're as overloaded as you can get, exit map and walk back to your tent - distribute items into your piles
  • Next, that gang of knuckleheads in Hub Heights are waiting on you to finish recruiting 3 more members, so they can pull off a Bank Heist

    • Bring your 44 revolver, a 10mm pistol, the SMG you found in the Gecko Hunting Grounds, a regular double-barreled Shotgun, and a Crowbar
    • Bring enough materials to craft a Hunting Rifle and another Shotgun, and enough more materials to upgrade that Shotgun to a Sawed-Off Shotgun

  • Exit Water Merchants back to Market, and run straight west over to the Heights again, to check in with Johnny now that more members have been recruited, 1100 XP
  • Talk to Johnny a couple more times and you have to deliver some bribe money to the police station - take 1200 Caps to the Sherrif and don't talk much

  • Talk to Johnny to find out which members have what strengths, and then choose Tactical Phase to run The Great American Bank Heist
    • This is a dialogue mission where they put you in charge of the decisions. You have to assign each member to the right task for a successful outcome
    • When you first see the outcome, if it's bad, you can cancel out of the dialogue, and try again for better results, by assigning people differently
  • A successful heist? 1430 XP now time to go sell the metal armor to Jacob in Old Town
  • Go back to your tent and drop everything except your standard tools into a single pile, including your armor and helmet - use Control+D for this
  • Get 50 Wood, 15 Junk, 30 Broc Flowers, 30 Xander Roots, 6 eParts, 20 Flint, and 80 Fruit. Also bring 24 Cigarettes
    • You likely don't have all of this yet, but grab what you have of these amounts
    • If you're short on Wood, cut a few trees in Hub until you have 50, and use a Junk barrel in Hub if you are short on Junk
  • Carrying this much will make you Overweight, but it's not far to go - head to zone 29:37 and enter the Junktown Quarry
  • Go into the building there and speak with the Quarry Supervisor about work. He wants 50 Wood and 15 Junk. Hand it over to lighted your load, 1100 XP
  • He wants 30 each of Broc and Xander next. Assuming you don't have that much yet, go anywhere nearby to the quarry, go into a random place on the map, and find what he needs
  • You have PE 1 which is bad for this kind of searching, but the good news is you don't need to find much, and it's worth it, Watch for Flint too - you'll need 20 Flint soon
    • Use Q to highlight your view range and avoid caves for now - we'll do that later when you can fight deathclaws
    • A random encounter will have Broc or Xander, never both. It may also have Flint, Trees, Fiber Stalks, and Apple Trees
  • When you have the rest, go back to the Quarry Supervisor and give him all the materials, 5500 XP
  • Head into Junktown via the north entrance and go to the large building in the upper right corner. The door is on the back side. Give smokes to the Hackler, 1650 XP +1200 Caps
  • In the same building, talk with Frier about his family's healthcare needs. With your Doctor's Bag, perform a few brief medical examinations for a total of 2200 XP, Level 12

  • Go into the building just west of the Power House and Bring Antidote to Darion, 1100 XP

  • Read your Scout Handbook for a permanent +6 boost to Outdoorsman skill (OD will show as 154, not 156 because boosting skills costs more when skill is over 100)
  • Go back to Hub, enter Market, buy a robot motivator part from Mitch
  • Get and use a Mentats breath mint and talk with the iguana dealer in Hub's Market south. If you choose the right dialogue, you get a quest to help Find Iguana Pete's Missing Son

  • Run over to the Skum Pitt bar and buy some Nuka-Colas. You'll need 34 to give to Krieger soon

Carry Weight 133
  • Travel northwest to Broken Hills in Zone 29:17, get Strong Back perk from Francis +23 Carry Weight
  • Exit to map, go straight west to New Reno, and enter the Garage. Go inside and buy a Buggy from T-Ray. Congrats! Your new car appears in the garage!
  • Click your Buggy to take off straight west for Gordon's Gas Station in Zone 14:18
    • Notice you now have a car key in your Inventory. Be careful not to move that key into the trunk of your vehicle - it can get locked inside, and you'll need someone with high Lockpick skill to open it
    • Also notice your vehicle has fuel and a gneral mechanical condition. Fuel gets used as you drive, and the car's condition deteriorates too.
    • When parked somewhere, use Science skill on a vehicle to see it's status. Add batteries to charge it up (refuel it), and use a Repair Tool on it to keep it in good running order
    • Your ability to fix your own car will be tied directly to your Repair skill, so expect to break Tools until your Repair is higher
    • IMPORTANT: If you ever are parking a car and accidentally get into a populated encounter, click the car immediately to exit and try again - otherwise get caught in unplanned combat
  • Park next to Gordon's Gas Station in an empty random encounter, run in and speak carefully with Tamira to get the Ranger Support Perk
    • Diaogue options to avoid being attacked by Tamira: 11112121 (Who are you? The way you hold..., For some benefit..., Now i wouldn't call this..., Spit on the ground, I'm looking for someone..., By now you can guess..., You betchya!)
  • Return to Buggy and drive straight north to Redding in Zone 14:11, and park next to town
  • Enter Redding via the Mine entrance, and go into the Last Gasp Saloon. Ask Josh about how to properly bury the dead, 2200 XP
  • Head nextdoor to speak with Dangerous Dan and get the Pack Rat Support Perk, and exit town, go back to your car and straight south to Zone 14:18
  • Return to Buggy and drive northwest to Modoc in Zone 20:5 but don't stop there
  • Go straight west from Modoc and find Den. Park next to town, arm yourself with a Tool (or a Super Tool Kit if you have one) and go in via Downtown
  • Go into Becky's casino and ask Becky about fixing her game table. Arm your best repair tool in Slot 1, and use your Repair skill on the table closest to the door
  • Report back to Becky that her table is fixed, 990 XP and exit back to the map
  • Re-enter Den via the East Side, run up into Mom's Diner and ask her what's on the menu - choose a bar food (1375 XP) and exit, return to your car and head northwest to uncover Klamath
  • No need to stop yet at Klamath, but uncovering these towns will allow you to get another Support Perk which makes map travel a little easier
  • From Klamath, drive south by southwest along the coast to Zone 3:16 to find Navarro. Park in an empty random encounter and go into Navarro
  • There at Navarro's entrance is a building with a gated area behind it. Go into that gated area to disover the mysterious red object. You'll know if you find it when you get the right text message
  • As soon as you solve that little mystery, exit Navarro and go back to your car.
  • Drive south along the coast to find San Francisco in Zone 9:25. Park near town and use a Folded Tent this time to set up a permanent parking place
    • Notice your tent is not exactly a tent! Ranger means you get Safe Houses, which have their own Workbench for Crafting. Nice, now walk into town and use the Tanker entrance
  • Find Charlie in the bar in the back and recruit him back into Mick's band, 275 XP (notice there are some good merchants here)
  • Exit the tanker, and find the Exit Grid straight to the far west, just in from the dock, and re-enter town via the main entrance
  • Run straight west and find a gate in the fence. You're a BoS member now, so go straight into the BoS field office and report to Paladin Windsted about the red object
  • Then talk to the other BoS guy there, the Quartermaster. He'll explain a few things about membership and direct you to Lost Hills from now on, but talk again with Paladin Windsted for your next assignment, 825 XP
  • Paladin Windsted will give you your next assignment, which is your choice of two scouting missions. Head back to your car and drive back to Hub. Park at your original tent there
  • Move your car key into Slot 2, and your Radio into slot 1, and put eveything else in the trunk of your car, including your armor - you need room to carry some very heavy things next
  • Talk with Mick again in the Maltese Falcon to progress with The Wasteland Band quest, 1265 XP
  • Go to the north church and report back to Father O'Shaughnessy about what you found out in the Last Gasp Saloon, 3850 XP
  • Now go to the Water Merchants district, and speak with Mere to get a job driving water barrels to 3 towns (Broken Hills, Den, an San Francisco) and agree to take all 3 barrels at once
  • Bring 2 more Folded Tents if you have them, and go to Broken Hills and park in an emtpy encounter right next to the town. Use a Folded Tent there to create another parking place
  • Run into town, down the main street just past the open well, and deliver a water barrel to Marcus, 1320 XP
  • Exit town, return to car and drive to Modoc, park near Ghost Farm and run into Ghost Farm to see it's all dead there. Get text message about it, and exit back to car
  • Drive to Den next, set up another Safe House next to town, enter town via East Side, run into the The Hole saloon, and deliver a water barrel to Frankie, 1320 XP, Level 15
